We are surrounded with chaos either on a personal level or on a community level and the questions that most of us ask are: Why is this happening? Why me/us? Why doesn’t it get solved once and for all so that we may finally have peace?

On the light of these questions, I would like to share the following verse:

 {وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ}

آل عمران : 139

Victory or overcoming afflictions is directly related to the condition of having faith. It is true that a believer is often tested, and most of the tests aim to get us closer to Allah, but when affliction and grief become a constant state, we should question our faith.

It is not only about praying five times a day, fasting and giving Zakat (charity), faith is about being truthful to the one who created you, getting away from what He ordered you to stay away from and following the enlightened way He asked you to follow.

If we take a look on our actual society, we would notice that dishonesty, lies, gossip, backbiting, robbery, hypocrisy, disobedience to parents, the lack of respect to elders, wronging others, pride, insane jealousy, bribe, injustice and a lot more have become a normal part of our daily life that we don’t even do Istighfar for (Ask the forgiveness of God).

Take a step back and observe your behaviour in the last week: How many of those have you done? How many times have you done them/it?

Lying about your location on the phone for example seems to be of no importance but it reflects a lack of honesty that, you think, will not affect you as individual. While truth is when each of us commits such “small” sins the whole community becomes corrupted and society lives in the same conditions in which we live nowadays.

Sins we underestimate and qualify as “small” are like grains of sand, when they are put together the sand bag you carry will make it hard for you to step forward in the way of betterment. Let’s not talk about bigger sins, some of which were cited above. Can you imagine the load our nation has dragging all those bags of us? We can’t make it to the summit when the burden we carry keeps us in the foothill.

We should Stop discussing the problem stagnating in the same situation when all we have to do is to let go of the bag. In times of hardship and grief, let each of us observe his faith.

When we don’t fit the condition, we can’t ask for the payoff.
